Is the Gym really the Motivation you Need

So here I am again, on the topic of the “Gym”

A few years ago before I decided to take on the Health and Fitness Journey, I didn’t like the idea of a Gym. Simply because of time, money wasting and maybe a bit of social anxiety. I like the ladies gyms a lot actually.

I am also a Gym member now…. I needed to join because I need to spend a lot of time there for practical hours, so I thought it’s a win win.

My husband joined three months before I decided to join too. So I asked him if it is a real motivation to him, what do they offer or how is the support system from the staff. As he is a complete newbie at gyming. Well, not the feedback I expected. Or I should actually say I knew it! What a waste of money! Hehehehe

So where am I heading with this topic..

Personally I feel Motivation starts at home, it starts with you, from within. If a person can’t find the time to do a fifteen minute workout at home how are they going to make a success at the gym. From what I’ve seen and heard, people are paying gym subscriptions and are not even going there.

I do blame the Gym  too. I’m not saying they should constantly nag and bore the gym member with phone calls and updates ect. I can remember when I joined a ladies gym in 2012. At that gym they use to give you a monthly update/printout showing how often you’ve been there, your improvements and short comings. When you don’t understand why you’re not losing weight or toning they could refer to the chart. The lady use to tell me “what you put in, you get  out”  that’s the honest truth and a wake up call! They checked your BMI which showed you how your eating habits are and also how it is also playing a role. (Motivational)

It still comes down to what You put in. You getting up and going to Gym. But, what are their Motivational Tools. I think Gyms can work on that.

The Staff

My personal opinion is: employ people who are interested in Health and Fitness, from your Receptionist. If they ‘re not fit  or healthy, be their motivation. I personally would love to walk into a gym and see each and every person has Fitness written on their face (not literally)   Friendly and Energetic! I don’t want to see how they ask to go on a quick smoke break..

If I must start a Fit Club or Gym, my goal will be to start within. Educate my staff, if they not on the road yet help them there. My conditions on employment will be “fully Healthy Equipped ” if not, I’ll help you there. It shouldn’t just be a job, but your passion. The Health and Fitness Journey is not an easy one, but it can be Fun!

I could start at home/ Joined Gym too

I am a true believer in Self-motivation. I am like this because I just needed to be from a very young age. I always get things done on my own and by myself (also a negative). It is because I want things to go perfect and my way seems like the only way. This is one of my challenges through my Journey and I am working on it.

I workout at home and it works for me. It can get tough but I make it work. When I started at the gym I just loved how quickly I toned and could see I am getting Lean Muscle!! That’s one of the many benefits of gyming! You have the opportunity to make use of all the awesome gym equipment and other services like the Zumba, stretching, spinning ect. Classes.

Spending your time productively at the gym can lead to Great results. And except for my view on Gym  Motivation, they do help you when you need them and with a friendly smile.

My advice

Don’t join the Gym to just show people, because that’s what 70% of people I know do. You end up gyming for a month and the rest of the two year subscription you waste your money.

Find what works for you, make notes of why you want to make a change. Set realistic goals, set up a plan and start by taking action. Challenge yourself by achieving mini goals. Something like eating less sugar, taking escalator and not lift. Skip at home or do jumping jacks. Fitness can be so much fun especially with your family.

Let’s Do Health

Oh my Hat I am eating so wrong today

I live by the rule: always pack lunch to work.  I am good at obeying that rule(hubby pack though) however, today..  Oh today! A day not so well planned.

How did my Morning start

My oatmeal was ready, I just had to warm some milk as the porridge got a little cold. My husband’s cheese toast was on the bread board (looking yummy).. I thought “agh just one bite” “mmmm so nice with the coffee” one slice down, never ate my porridge as we ran late.

I didn’t pack fruit! Normally it’s my first snack at work (a naartjie/orange). I looked into my lunch bag and all I could see was my soup for lunch and a small packet of Frito’s, my son’s. Well, when a person is hungry you pretty much end up eating everything.  I thought “ too early for junk, it’s almost tea time for a cup of tea and a carrot muffin yum!”  I ended up eating some of the chips… Left feeling nauseous.

 Tea Time 10:15

I couldn’t wait to get my hands on that muffin. Normally I eat half, today I’ve finished it all.(arrgh I’m still bloated)  I ate the icing too! Plus the tea with milk and one sugar!

Going forward

It is exactly 11:53 now, and I am still bloated! It feels like I won’t be able to eat lunch time.(an orange need to come to my rescue)

Some will maybe think “girl get over yourself” but, this is my body. And I run this factory of mine based on good production. Well nourished, well serviced and works on certain fuels. It’s like throwing petrol into a diesel car. That’s what I did to my body today and now I suffer the consequences.

That’s one of the reasons I made the decision to eliminate junk. It’s also about how you manage it. If I had to start my day right I would’ve been able to eat a peace of the muffin more enjoyable, and not by over indulging.

The moral is: No good comes from over indulging bad foods, it just leaves you feeling uneasy, bloated and Moody.

Choose good food, you miss out on nothing!

I am glad I experienced this today, because once again it is proven what unhealthy eating habits does. NO GOOD

So, I am doing quite fine by striving to Eat Healthily and Exercise everyday. I am fine by being Judged for my way of Living. As long as I know it’s doing good for my Health.

I hope everyone can realize the Importance of Health.

Weightloss vs. Health Journey

Last year I decided to share my weight loss story with WomensHealthMagazine. I loved the fact that they called me for a photo shoot. (I love the camera)  It was an awesome experience. The best part of it all was the fact that I wanted to get my story out there, with the idea of inspiring others.

Well, this year they shared my story in the June issue of Women’s HealthSA Magazine.

I am so grateful and happy.

Feature in Women’sHealthMagazineSA

That’s all about my Weight Loss but, there is more to that story.

The Journey

Through my Journey to successfully lose unwanted weight I discovered a new Me.

I’ve learnt that it is actually not that difficult to get rid of bad habits(not only bad eating habits). Everything became a challenge to me. And I am someone who like to succeed in everything I do.

I got to know myself better, I’ve discovered how sad I use to be, how I use to live to please others, how I neglected not only my Health but myself (the inner me). I always mention how I use to find comfort in a glass of red/white wine with cigarettes, it became my “god” it was so bad I use to curb my hunger by drinking alcohol to feel thin the next day, to overcome my stress and anxiety problems. It just affected my health physically and mentally.

I’ve found myself through exercise and eating healthy foods. By finding a balance in my life, to focus on what’s important to Me and not others. I sometimes wish I knew this earlier. To simply focus on the positive side of life. It is not easy as one’s fears come more to light. The ability to deal with challenges with a clear and mentally fit mind is a bonus. Not looking for short cuts but simply dealing with it the right way The Healthy Way.

The Struggle is real

I still struggle with a few issues, emotionally, mentally and physically. But I am coping and dealing with it everyday. I admit, acknowledge and then take action. The beauty of everything is, at the end of the day I come out stronger.

My favourite place: the park

The Physical FitnessI’ve mentioned before that I’ve always been skinny. But, I always dreamt of having a well toned body. My sister always made fun of my skin. I struggled with cellulite from a young age. I am talking about hard cellulite on my thighs, legs, arms, and tummy.

Since last year when I started to exercise regularly and changed my diet I could see a change. It’s really hard work because even though I exercise that much, right now I didn’t reach my goal yet. In my blogpost “it’s not the tummy it’s the thighs”  I talk about the struggle with the thighs/legs. (Wow it’s a tuff one) I understand now why they say never skip a Leg day.

Yoga/balancing in backyard

I joined the gym recently, and I must say I love the adductor/abductor machines. And guest what? My thighs are leaner and I love them!! That’s a plus point of a gym. The resistance machines gets the body toned much quicker. The only bad thing is, I became lazy to workout at home. However, I won’t forget the fact that I could do it all by myself at home. So I decided to still do my 15 minute workouts daily at home.

First day at Gym
Side plank after gym session

I know only good can come from this journey. So far I’ve done good and have so much in mind for the future.

I will keep on dreaming, believing and Achieve with the help of God.

Let’s do Health

Is it worth holding on…

I decided to befriend them. I made the choice.

In everything I do my whole entire life, they’ve been there for me. In fact, they still are. I can’t help to say or ask myself sometimes if it is worth holding on to them. When anxiety takes over, it’s to go to them because they are so Positive, so Strong. When I am in the dark hole it’s as if I do not want to see the light at the end. I just want to sit and stare at the darkness, punishing myself. Deep inside my friends will always reach out, not giving up on me because we are part of each other.

DETERMINATION

To keep trying, to keep pushing and not give up. No matter how tough it gets, to hold on and keep moving.

Well, I can’t help asking myself sometimes… Why don’t you just give up, stop being ambitious, be like some people who don’t live life but only exist.

But that’s not who I am, it’s not how and what I feel. I can remember from the day I could think and understand, I knew I want to mean something in life. I knew I can be more.

I’ve always had Determination by my side.

MOTIVATION

Mostly Self-motivation.

The ability to do, push and reach something without the influence of others. Yeah, that’s pretty much how it’s been my whole life. However, I must add that I do appreciate those who takes the time to motivate me, especially the ones who sometimes don’t realize it. Sometimes people just say or do something without realizing the impact they have in someone’s life.

I go nowhere without Motivation, it keeps me strong and remind me of my goals.

WILL-POWER

It comes with Determination. When I put my mind to something I stick to it. I know discipline comes with it, and yes, I can be well disciplined. I don’t like failing without trying, I will not set a goal and not reach it. Unless, unforseen circumstances arise and changes needs to be made. I can handle change but, not pushing through is not part of me.

COURAGE

Without Courage none of it is possible. Courage needs to eat, drink and sleep with me. In today’s life, Society, the people… I need Courage. It keeps me focused on what’s my needs, beliefs and priorities. It is not always easy, the struggle is real. But I know in my ♥ Heart, God gave me Courage.

FAITH

As a child of God, I firmly believe he is by my side at all times. I know he got big plans for me. I just need to have faith, walk in his footsteps and not the world’s.

With Faith comes Wisdom. God wants what’s best for us, but he gave us Choice. If we are focused on the wrong things and don’t listen to the voice of God, we lack wisdom.

It can be hard sometimes. But I have Faith
My Health and Fitness journey is tuff but I love it. It made me a better person. I am a go getter, I am strong. Mentally, Physically, and Spiritually.

LET’S DO HEALTH

Regular exercise keeps weight gain away

I’ve been trying a lot of methods of diets before. I must say, ever since I started to follow regular exercises and balancing what I eat, it’s been a success. Yes, regular exercise helps keeping weight off. I try to do it 3-4times a week. Cardio, bodyweight, metabolism and strength workouts. It’s very important to balance the types of exercise.

When you exercise, your body asks for nutritional foods. There is really no satisfaction when you try a take away Burger, a soda, sweets… You can name them. I personally, sometimes use to sip on my husband’s soda, and it actually tastes yach..meaning, I can taste the sugars and unhealthines. I do not desire any take out foods. PS: but my biltong and drywors once a month I want lol

Since last year January I maintained a perfect weight. I just see improvement. I love it and want to encourage everyone, just stay active. It doesn’t have to be a gym, take on parks, beaches ect. It is fun, fit and healthy!

Balancing @Tygerfalls

I want to start off by saying hello to everyone.

I think I am one of the most inactively bloggers. I am working on it though. I love expressing myself and sharing, but sometimes I don’t want to share something unless it has good meaning, or can touch someone out there. I’ve started to be more active on Instagram too, I must be honest as a minimalist it’s a little hard to adapt to some things. I do not believe in having too much social media accounts, I thought Facebook and twitter was enough. But, I have plans to start a business and realised Instagram is very much Needed LoL

My fitness progress

I love it I love it!

My body, mind and soul feel so good. I am so close to getting my dream legs it’s in believable. And then there’s my arms too.. Ooh the deltoids, and my back. I improved with posture and with a lot of exercises I use to struggle with.

Everyone say tummy muscles is tuff, but know mentioned thighs!

Oh my Hat! Boy, it is tuff to tone thighs, hamstrings and quadriceps. I can’t believe they don’t make a fuss of that, rather than the tummy muscles. I reached my sixpack goal faster than my thighs. In fact, I am still working hard on it. When I started to do more lunges, donkey kicks, plie squats, bridge poses it really helped a lot.

I am still trying my best everyday. I do not plan to give up. I am the happiest I’ve ever been. Having a lovely happy family. We keep on moving forward, working towards a better “us”. God is always on our side, as this is not only a Healthy journey in flesh, but also spiritually.

I balance my love for Health and fitness. I see to it that I do not obsess about my body, but mostly keeping it healthy and clean as a child of God.

Find your happy place, eliminate everything that’s toxic to your body, mind and soul. Don’t put your trust in food, (binge eating). Pray regularly, even if it’s about something small as to not eat when you’re not hungry. God wants us to be happy. We do not have to walk with long slender legs, or six packs but remember, your well being is important.

Another blog about my fears as a Mom

On 11January I’ve shared a bit about my fears as a mommy.

My son is settled in at School

After a long week of crying, feeling sad and worried, everything is doing quite well now.

We are so Happy to see how grown up our little boy is. His teachers love him, in the mornings we can see how he tells them long stories hehehe(and that boy can talk). Other kids calling him by the name etc.

I noticed he don’t really want to kiss me in the mornings, so I asked him why. And as always he had a good made up explanation and the very next day he gave me a big kiss to please me hahaha.

The kids must take extra clothing for oopses. And my 5yr old got a phobia to not “number2” anywhere but at home. That was my biggest fear, because it is a full day. I always tell my husband, he won’t be able to hold it so long. So well, Today… My husband fetched him then me. This little son of mine, got his pants on back to front and his under pants tucked into his pocket zipped close. He told us he had an accident, and everything is fine LOL

I am trying now to explain to him nicely, it is fine to tell your teacher to go to the loo. Yeah, that boy got some skills.

I love how he tells us in the morning not to be late, and at night my big boy sleeps at 20:00pm. When he was younger we struggled, he never liked going to bed on time. But now, it just happend naturally 🙂

Parenting

I would love to say all parents love their kids to bits, but what I see and hear everyday is disgusting! Today I heard a mom asking her boy around 9yrs old, what did the girl around 2-3yrs say.. The boy answered: she want to be picked up The mom’s response: is she insane!

Omw! I will die if anyone speak like that to my son.

A week ago, my husband saw a nanny standing under a tree with a 3yr old boy, it was a hot day. She was drinking water while this poor boy was reaching out for it but she was seeing to her needs first. It kills me, if my husband had to tell me earlier I would’ve stopped and confronted her.

We as parents should love all kids even if it’s not our own. They need love, nurturing, care, empathy, guidance, discipline etc.

I love every second, minute, hour, day, night, of being a mom. Teaching my child, disciplining him, loving him, being crazy with him and just looking at him. How he grows everyday.

Everything I do, I first consider my family. That is what we as mothers do.

A Shout out to all wonderful moms out there, who is striving to be the best she can. Accepting  the mistakes and failures, by learning from it and moving forward.

New Year’s Resolutions versus Goals

NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS

get-started

I don’t find it very productive or realistic at all.

We tend to say when the new year starts we are going to change or stop certain things in our lives. Things like:

  • STOP SMOKING AND DRINKING ALCOHOL
  • START EXERCISING
  • EATING MORE HEALTHY
  • MANAGE FINANCES BETTER
  • CUT OUT NEGATIVE PEOPLE
  • STOP BAD TALKING ABOUT OTHERS
  • SPEND MORE TIME WITH FAMILY

I can mention so many, because that’s what I hear all the time.

So, the first day of the new year is a Holiday! Everyone or most of us are still on holiday or some are only having that one day off. Now I ask the question, that New Year Resolution was suppose to start on the first day of the New Year. “it is a New Year resolution after all”

Then the famous words comes… ah I can still start tomorrow the year just started… why? Because you are still having a lot of fun in the Sun! Enjoying the time with family, lots of food and drinks, happiness and laughter. (Nothing wrong with that though) However, you did not plan well, you did not set boundaries, you did not make a realistic decision, and most of all. the New Year started and you are still stuck  in your old ways….

It is a sad cycle, repeating itself all the time.

GOALS

the-clock

I believe very strongly in GOALS. It can be short term, long term, even mini Goals. It is realistic and Hey! with it comes a Plan + Action .

When we set Goals, we plan because with a goal comes hard work and commitment. We look at the factors which will be having an affect on it, we set boundaries and with all that we start taking action.

When I want to change something that is affecting me in a bad way, I do not say I am going to get rid of it tomorrow or next year. I believe change start NOW! I know for a fact when you keep extending it’ll get much harder to make that change.

If a smoker, drinker, chronic gossiper wants to stop or make a change they need to understand it’ll take time. It is a process, it need hard work and dedication. They will have to start making small changes in order to lessen the habit. It is something that was part of them for so long it is impossible to just STOP. So, I would say that should be a long term goal because it’ll need time and commitment.

I always have Goals in all areas of my life, and whether it is Long term, Short term or Mini Goals I see that I meet them all.

I always make space for the Unexpected; Disappointment; and the GOOD. When you made space for all of that, you are still on the road to SUCCESS!

I would say, setting Goals is much more Realistic and Productive than New Year’s Resolutions.

Don’t wait for tomorrow or worst of all the Next Year to start making Healthy choices in  your life. Start today! Start Now!

LIVING HEALTHY IS MORE THAN CLEAN EATING AND EXERCISE

It is my opinion and experience, there will be others that see it in a different way and it is Okay…

Stay Happy and full fill your Dreams and Goals, I AM!

SELF-MOTIVATION

I am someone who strictly believes in  Self-Motivation. It keeps me going. In order for one to survive in Society you really need to set boundaries and don’t move away from what you believe in to please others. Look at yourself as a Survivor, look at yourself as a Success. No matter in which area of your life, be proud of what you’ve achieved, give yourself credit, look at your progress, and always better yourself in every area of your life.

2b6ce66328ab1f309e4268005b9f5003

I made a decision in the beginning of this year, and every short term goal I’ve set so far realised. I have a history of “anxiety and stress” and yes it sometimes can be tough. But I am not set on that, I face the challenge. I will not let it take control over my life because I have Choice, yes that’s one thing God gave us. Everything we do, is our choice! There is no time for blaming and shaming, oh no, I’ve learned to deal with what ever comes my way. If you are wrong, admit, confront, repent.

Everyday is a challenge, I face rejections, people who constantly judge me, bad mouthing you name it.. But hey! who doesn’t??

Free yourself and face the challenges even though you do it with that fear. We can only come out stronger at the end.

As long as you keep your eyes on your goal, every bad thing around you can’t affect you. Work hard and smart, every day is a new day for change, to correct what you did wrong yesterday. Keep moving, you need to have a plan and always take action.

Be proud of what you’ve achieved, as long as there is movement and improvement then you’re on the right road.

I believe every one is Beautiful no matter what. All of us make mistakes and most of us learn from them. Believe in yourself, your Beauty, and don’t forget to always see the Beauty in others too. It can be hard sometimes, but when you try it, you will see it’s actualy not so bad.

When you choose clean eating and exercise, I will say HOORAY!!

A HEALTHIER AND FITTER YOU, IN AN INVESTMENT

Make Healthy choices in all areas of your life.

Remember that living a Healthy Lifestyle is not only about Eating and Exercising..
